“The Holidays” & A Healthy Lifestyle

The holidays are a busy time, revolving around food centered gatherings. As a result, you may over indulge and lose sight of your healthy lifestyle you’ve been creating. Then when January comes around, you resolve to get back on track. Recommitting to your goals sounds good on paper but it’s not always easy to put into practice. Realigning with your healthy behavior goals is challenging; don’t get discouraged if it’s hard to pick up where you left off.

Getting Back on Track with Your Healthy Lifestyle

Remember, creating habits takes time, energy and action. If your holiday season was hectic, you may not have the energy to get back in the “healthy eating” saddle. Although it may be easier to continue with those relaxed holiday habits, the easy way won’t get you to your goals.

Restarting all of your healthy habits, however, may be unrealistic. Don’t let an “all or nothing” approach stall you. Here’s one way to ease back into your healthy lifestyle:

  • Choose one healthy habit that dropped off during the holidays, like drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day, and make a plan for how to achieve that each day.
  • After 1 week, add another healthy behavior that you want to get back on track, like eating at least 30 grams of fiber each day. And make a plan on ways to reach that goal.
  • Continue to add another healthy habit to restart each week and before you know it, you’ll be back on track, feeling good and losing weight!

It’s important to note that creating healthy habits is something you can control, while the number on the scale is oftentimes not as easy to control. Changing your behaviors and losing can be hard to do by yourself.  Remember that you’re not alone; the team at Health Plus is here to support you and help you succeed. It doesn’t matter if you were in last week, last month, or 6 months ago, get back on track by making an appointment with us. Make this year the year that you prioritize yourself and your health!
